2G Energy will supply 275 megawatts of containerised power generation systems to Energy Vault for US data centre and AI infrastructure. The German manufacturer will deliver the plug-and-play units between the fourth quarter of 2027 and the third quarter of 2028.

Energy Vault, a publicly traded energy infrastructure company, will integrate the systems into its offerings for AI and data centre customers, including large hyperscale operators. The containerised units act as a dispatchable generation layer within Energy Vault's architecture, complementing battery storage and its VaultOS energy management software. This equipment will be deployed as part of Energy Vault's 'Powered Land' and 'Powered Shell' infrastructure solutions.

The order includes a long-term service agreement for 2G Energy to support the generation fleet throughout its operational life. Pablo Hofelich, chief executive officer of 2G Energy, emphasised the commitment to ongoing performance. "For us, the focus extends beyond supplying the systems. Through long-term service, we also support their reliable operation throughout the entire life cycle," Hofelich said.

Market drivers and strategic context

The contract responds to surging global demand for data centre capacity, particularly for artificial intelligence workloads. As digital infrastructure expands, securing adequate and reliable energy supply has become a prominent challenge.

On-site generation, paired with battery storage and intelligent control systems, is seen as a way to support rapid load changes and maintain power quality during periods of high demand. For hyperscale AI campuses, this approach supports high availability under demanding conditions, including high ambient temperatures. It can also complement grid infrastructure where capacity is constrained or where additional power is needed on accelerated timelines.

Company backgrounds and capabilities

2G Energy is a Germany-based manufacturer of decentralised energy systems with more than 10,000 installations worldwide. The company develops, produces, and installs combined heat and power plants, large heat pumps, and peak-load generator sets. Its technology portfolio includes the following systems:

System TypeOutput RangeFuels/Efficiency
CHP Plants20 kW to 4,500 kWHydrogen, natural gas, biogas; over 90% efficiency
Large Heat Pumps100 kW to 3,200 kW300-500% efficiency depending on conditions
Peak-Load Gensets500 kW or more electrical outputNot specified in brief

The company employs more than 1,000 people and is active in over 60 countries. It reported net sales of 398 million euros and an EBIT margin of 6.6% for the 2025 financial year. 2G Energy recently expanded its manufacturing capacity in Heek with a new production hall, and a second site is under development with completion expected by the end of 2027.

Energy Vault, led by chief revenue officer Marco Terruzzin, develops, owns, and operates integrated power solutions for utilities, independent power producers, industrial customers, and the AI and data centre markets. The company aims to shorten time-to-power while preserving reliability for mission-critical operations.

The containerised power generation systems will be pre-assembled and tested at 2G Energy's production facility in Heek, Germany. They will then be shipped to the United States for final on-site commissioning.
